Desiderata

sunset flowers

This prose poem written by Max Ehrmann in 1927 speaks to the core of my soul. Every single time I read it, I get chills. My heart physically aches with the truth and honesty of it. We can all take something from it, I have no doubt.

Desired Things  Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

~

I think sometimes we just need to take a step back and remind ourselves of all the above.

Much Love

immerse yourself

ImmerseyourselfPALM_Fotor

We are all striving to be our better selves, whether this is conscious or not. Some of us go out of our way to find things and people to help us along our way, and some of us are just happy plodding along, picking up the pieces as we go, still shining, but not really pushing for it.

But… at the end of the day, we all want to be the best we can be.

Whichever one you are, you MUST know the value of surrounding yourselves with the right kind of people.

Studies have shown that we are most like the 5 closest people to us, we are pulling personality traits, mannerisms, self esteem… be that negative or positive, we are most influenced by those 5 closest people. Keep on reading…

Less than super human

Flower

It’s completely ok to take a break sometimes.

It’s ok to admit that you need time out.

It’s ok to then take said ‘time out’ to rejuvenate your soul.

It’s your right, and honestly, it’s your obligation to yourself to do this every now and then.

We so often find ourselves biting off more than we can chew, thinking more is better, thinking that by doing more we are living more and fulfilling ourselves… When really, majority of the time, all we are doing is bee lining to burn out zones…

We need to be kind to ourselves and on the same note; we need to be kind to others if we see them needing time out. Sometimes a few words “it’s ok, you are ONE person, you aren’t expected to do IT ALL”.. are all it takes. Whether you are saying this to a friend, a colleague or yourself.. just that quiet reassurance that we are only human and cannot take on the work or the stressors of a thousand men, is all we need. Come right in, sit right down

Hello

Hello hello hello.

WELCOME.

Welcome to this new little world o’ mine.

I’ve been sitting on this website for quite some time now, always verging on the cusp of ‘publishing’ … but never actually getting there.

Well, that clearly has changed today. So here I am, pressing publish, holding my breath, squinting my eyes (because things aren’t as scary if you can’t see them properly!) and bloody well going for it.

The reason I have not pressed publish till now is such a culmination of things, but the one resounding thing was, and always is, FEAR.
Fear of being judged (of course that will happen, der, life. So it’s not something I can control… moving on) Fear of not being good enough, well, good enough for who? and why? and who cares! Also, sooo much comparison-itis. Honestly, there are 90 bazillion websites out there, and blogs and coaches and so on, and it’s so damn hard to not compare. But the reality is, we are all different, and we all have our good points and bad points, but, every one of us is unique in our own little way… so… today is the day i’m giving the middle finger to all of that… sure it will come back, I have no doubt. But for today, I have conquered this.

So let’s get the show on the road!
